Consultation and Community Outreach

Kingsbury psychologists regularly provide consultation services for families seeking further explanation of testing, review of education plans, or guidance in raising children with learning disabilities and emotional issues.

If you or your child has undergone educational or social-emotional testing elsewhere, we can provide you help in interpreting tests results and making recommendations for further action. We will also review individualized education plans to ensure that you understand the services recommended for your child and how to advocate on his or her behalf.

Community Outreach

Kingsbury's Diagnostic and Psychological Services division participates in a number of projects to provide diagnostic testing services to children from economically disadvantaged communities throughout the Washington, D.C. area.

Pediatric Mobile Clinic

Kingsbury works in conjunction with the Pediatric Mobile Clinic, a project of Children's National Medical Center, to provide educational and social-emotional testing for children whose families lack the financial resources to pay for such services. Two days each week, a Kingsbury psychologist is located at THE ARC (Town Hall Education – Arts and Recreation Campus) to provide psychoeducational testing for children in need. Based on their findings, reports are written and given to the children's families with recommendations for further action. This service is provided at no cost to the families.

Testing and Tutoring for Economically Disadvantaged Students (TTEDS)

Through the TTEDS program, psychologists from Diagnostic and Psychological Services work with Kingsbury tutors to address the learning needs of students from needy families. First, psychologists evaluate and diagnose learning disabilities and other difficulties through a series of tests and interviews. They then make recommendations to teachers and parents for improving learning, compensating for learning difficulties, selecting an appropriate educational setting for a child or seeking medical or therapeutic treatment. From there, Kingsbury tutors provide one-on-one tutoring to remedy gaps in past learning and to provide specific compensatory and enrichment skills for future learning situations. This program is provided to economically disadvantaged families, and fees are either reduced or waived, based on financial need.

Training for Area Professionals

Kingsbury hosts training sessions for area psychologists and education professionals to keep them apprised of the latest findings and techniques in diagnostic testing. These training sessions range from small, hands-on workshops to demonstrate new diagnostic tools to large gatherings to train educators in ways to read and interpret test results properly.
