Related Services

Kingsbury Day School provides several supplemental services for students on site. Many KDS students have speech-language therapy, physical or occupational therapy, or psychotherapy on their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Coordination of these services with classroom instruction is one of the most effective means of treating problems in motor development, speech or behavior. As such, therapists work collaboratively with the child's classroom teacher and other service providers to address the needs of the whole child. All related service providers attend regular meetings with teachers and other staff, supply comprehensive reports twice yearly, develop IEPs and attend revision meetings, and work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and other related service providers. They also provide in-service training to teachers and educational seminars for parents.

Fees for related services are billed by the provider separately from tuition.

Occupational and Physical Therapy
Occupational and physical therapy services have been provided through Lynne C. Israel and Associates since 1984. Individual and group therapy services are provided to help promote and enhance gross and fine motor skills, visual motor integration, and sensory regulation. Therapists work in a variety of settings during the school day including offering support in the classroom, social skill groups or therapy in a separate treatment room equipped with suspended equipment in order to meet each child's need and maximize his or her capabilities. Therapists use an interdisciplinary approach to treatment, working closely and collaboratively with parents, teachers, and other related service providers. To obtain more information on how occupational or physical therapy services can help your child while attending Kingsbury Day School, please call Lynne C. Israel and Associates at (202) 244-8089.

Speech and Language Services
Michelle Fill & Associates (formerly Ridley & Fill Speech & Language Associates) is proud to have provided speech and language services to Kingsbury students since the day school opened its doors in 1984. Language therapy includes support in vocabulary, syntax, oral expression, following directions, written language, phonemic awareness, decoding and encoding, and social language. Articulation, voice and fluency therapy are also provided. Our therapists assist students in a variety of situations, appropriate to their individual needs. These settings include one-on-one sessions away from the classroom, individual assistance in the classroom, small and large group sessions, and co-treatment with occupational therapists. Please call Michelle Fill & Associates at 301-652-8997 to learn more about our program.

Individual and Group Psychotherapy
Kingsbury has on staff a corps of school and clinical psychologists in the Diagnostic and Psychological Services division who provide psychotherapy to students at Kingsbury Day School. All of our therapists are doctorate-level psychologists who specialize in and enjoy working with school-aged children. They are especially attentive to problems with self-esteem, social skills, and interpersonal relationships that many children with learning difficulties experience. They are available to assist in developing behavior plans to enable students to best benefit from academic instruction. Psychologists also serve as a resource to parents as part of the home-school collaboration process. Psychotherapy is available on both individual and group bases in accordance with students' Individualized Education Plans. Please call Diagnostic and Psychological Services at 202-722-5555 for more information about psychotherapy at Kingsbury.
